Lets Share Global Pie Akufo Addo

President Akufo-Addo, last Friday joined other senior decision-makers and thought leaders from around the world for the 60th edition of the Munich Security Conference to discuss the most pressing issues on international security.

As a key component of the conference’s main activities, President Akufo-Addo participated in the opening panel discussion themed, “Growing the Pie: A Global Order that Works for Everyone.”

This panel comprised various dignitaries, including Mr. Antoacute;nio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego, President, Republic of Colombia and Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados.

During deliberations, the President underscored that in order to ensure an orderly state of humanity, one side should not be impoverished in order for another to prosper. The Global Pie must be shared and enjoyed by everyone globally, he intimated.

He reiterated his call for reforms in the global financial (Bretton woods institutions) and governance institutions (UN), stressing that this is an imperative and requirement of our time.

He buttressed this point by stating that the UNSC- the principal organ for ensuring international peace and security is now paralysed by its structure as its members are regarded as the main protagonists of war.

Additionally, Nana Akufo-Addo engaged in a discussion organised by the Munich Young Leaders, who are not older than 40 years, focusing on Ghana’s democratic resilience amidst obstacles faced by neighbouring countries. Topics explored included the stability of Ghana’s democratic governance, the regional implications of democratic regression, and the potential ramifications of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso’s withdrawal from ECOWAS. The conversation addressed the root causes of democratic regression and forms of external support from foreign actors.

On the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, the President held bilateral meetings with several officials. These included discussions with the Director-General of IOM, Ms. Amy E. Pope, Mr. Karim A.A. Khan, ICC Prosecutor, Mr. Axel Van Trotsenburg, Senior Managing Director of the World Bank, and Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hendrik Wuuml;st, to discuss pertinent issues of mutual interest for Ghana and the various international organisations.
