The 2020 running mate to former President John Mahama, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has condemned the arrest of protesters of #OccupyJulorBiHouse demonstration.
About 50 demonstrators who were participating in the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest were arrested after they proceeded with their demonstration despite an injunction application filed at the court by the police.
Among those arrested was Oliver Barker Vormawor, the #FixtheCountry convener.
Reacting to this, Prof. Jane Opoku-Agyemang wrote on X: Today’s arrest of the small band of protesters - mostly young, non threatening people - is unnecessary and undemocratic.
One expects the Police to have engaged them, to hear them out and to direct them accordingly, instead of intimidating, arresting, and brutalizing them. I join all well meaning Ghanaians to demand their immediate release from custody".
Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, on the other hand, described it as shameful and backward.
