Kosmos Energy Ghana (KEG) is a leading international deepwater oil and gas exploration and production organization in Ghana's upstream oil and gas sector which is committed to being a good corporate citizen by giving back to the communities where we work and taking good care of the environment.
The aim of our social investment program in 2024 beyond what we provide jointly with our Jubilee and TEN Fields Joint Venture partners is to offer humanitarian relief to some of the less endowed Senior High Schools (SHS) in Ghana to improve the learning experience of students.
Four (4) Senior High Schools (SHS) from three (3) regions of the country; Northern, Greater-Accra, and Volta have been chosen as beneficiaries of a donation of three thousand two hundred (3200) student mono-desks for this year’s support, after a thorough assessment of needs.
We donated one thousand (1000) mono-desks to the Savelugu Senior High School in the Northern Region on 20th February and made further donations of one thousand (1000) mono-desks each to the Ningo and Prampram Senior High Schools in the Greater-Accra region on 7th November. This was soon followed by a donation of two hundred (200) student mono-desks to each of the students of Tsiame Senior High School in the Keta Municipality of Volta region on 12th November.
Mr. Appiah Kyei, Director New Ventures, who led the team of Kosmos staff to donate on behalf of Mr. Joe Mensah, Senior Vice President and Head of the Ghana Business Unit stated that these support programs are intended to supplement the efforts of the government, parents-teacher associations, and the schools’ administration to improve the learning conditions of students and stimulate their desire to excel in their education.
Mr. Kyei urged the students to take good care of the desks to ensure a lasting for future students of the schools. He encouraged them to work hard in their studies so that they can develop into responsible citizens who will be able to assume leadership roles in future.
The leaderships of the schools expressed their profound gratitude for the donations as it would provide significant relief to the students.
Mr. Peter Djan, headmaster of Prampram SHS indicated that the donation will eliminate the need for students to take their WAEC examinations in shifts since they did not have enough desks for all eligible students to write their respective papers in one sitting.
The KEG Humanitarian Relief Initiative began in 2022, with a focus on schools with special needs. It has supported four (4) Schools for Children with Special Needs in the Western, Eastern, Ashanti, and Northern Regions.
KEG acknowledges the importance of education in the growth and prosperity of the countries in which it operates, hence this initiative.
