The Ghana Highway Authority Retired Staff Association (GHARSA) has appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to pay up arrears due Single Man Contractors (SMCs) in the country.
The single man contractors are those responsible for the clearing of road impediments, weeding along the roads to help with visibility to road users and ensuring no potholes on the roads among other duties.
Speaking on behalf of the GHARSA, the Association's Chairman, Okodumgya Nana Banyin Ninsin Imbeah II bitterly complained to Nana Yaw Kesseh on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show that the government hasn't paid their workers for the past four years.
"They don't pay us for about four years now. From July 2019 up till now, they haven't paid us and the workers are crying. This is why I have come here to plead that you help me get this message across to the government and find money for Mr. Amoako-Atta to pay us," he exclaimed.
He stressed that the inability of the government to remunerate the workers (single man contractors) has made it difficult for them to execute their tasks dutifully.
He pleaded that the President finds ways and means to, as a matter of urgency, clear all arrears owed the SMCs to enable them continue their work noting that positive response to their plea would help alleviate the plight of the contractors.
He added; "I am appealing to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that his children are lamenting, weeping, suffering and dying. He should do everything possible to find money for Mr. Amoako-Atta to remunerate us to bring about peace."
