The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has made a passionate appeal to women to support their own by voting for the NDC come December 7.
Addressing a mini gathering at Talensi in the Upper East region, Mr Mahama indicated that women play a very significant role in the development of a nation.
He said gone were the days where women were not placed at the forefront but lately, women have occupied salient positions such as becoming foreign ministers, Chief Justices among others. However, the only two highest positions women haven’t occupied are becoming presidents and vice presidents in the history of Ghana.
He said Ghana is set to make history and Ghanaians particularly women should be at the forefront and rally support to make that alter happen and the only way to do that is to vote for him and the NDC to come to power so that history will be set for the first woman vice presidential candidate.
“We have a female Chief Justice, a female Speaker of Parliament, women have been Directors of Prisons, Attorney General except the highest offices of the land. That is President and Vice President...“For the first time in our history, history is going to be made because by the grace of God on 7th December 2024, a woman is going to become the first female Vice President of our country” Mahama said.
Mr Mahama explained that the call for history to be made is significant because his Running Mate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman is a well-accomplished woman who is capable and has shown leadership qualities when she served as the first female Vice Chancellor of a public University and when she was the education minister in the erstwhile mahama administration.
“She is not only going to be Vice President because she is a woman but because she is highly capable and qualified. She has made history before. She was the first female Vice Chancellor of a public university and she has been Minister of Education before” he touted
