Ghanaian Students in Hungary Demand Overdue Stipends from Government

Ghanaian students on scholarship in Hungary are calling on the government to pay their stipends owed for over 6 months.

The Ghana Students Association in Hungary expressed in a press release that the Ghanaian government has failed to fulfill its crucial responsibility of providing monthly stipends to approximately 215 students, including undergraduates, masters, and PhDs.

According to them negligence has had profound consequences on students' academic performance and mental well-being.

On the contrary, the Hungarian government has commendably fulfilled all its obligations stipulated in the scholarship agreement.

However, the constant rise in living costs in Hungary exacerbates the hardships faced by students. Despite continuous appeals, the students have yet to receive their owed stipends.

The timely disbursement of stipends and allocation of book allowances at the start of the academic year are essential to restoring hope, enabling academic success, and fulfilling the dreams of these bright Ghanaian students.

Unfortunately, the students have been left in dire straits for the past six months.

They are therefore pleading with the Government of Ghana, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat to expedite their processes for paying the stipends.
