Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Running Mate of the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr John Dramani Mahama, says the true state of Ghana's economy is evident in the markets.
"We all go to the market, and therefore we know how expensive and unbearable the cost of items, including food products, have become.
"If you want a alter for the better, then vote for the NDC to return to power to effectively manage the country to decrease the cost of living," she said.
Addressing market leaders, traders, commercial drivers and commuters at the Mankessim market in the Mfantseman constituency in the Central Region as part of her tour of the region, Prof Opoku-Agyemang said it is clear that the government has failed the nation.
"Ghanaians don't need a lecture to know the extent of failure due to the mismanagement. Everything is clear in the markets and shops," she said.
Touching on development in the market and the Mankessim area, she noted that re- designing and constructing contemporary markets remains one of the key points in the next NDC government's agenda because of the value the party places on markets and traders.
She cited the various development infrastructure the NDC built in Mankessim, including the development of the market, and questioned what the current government has done for them.
"Haven't we done it before?", she asked, and urged the people to support the NDC to return to power to persist with its projects that have been abandoned in the area by the government.
She also informed the traders about the proposed introduction of a Women’s Development Bank which would provide credit to traders to expand their businesses, saying "we have great plans for you traders."
