Father Campbell Praises Bawumia For Embracing Lepers When Others Refuse To Shake Their Hands

The Resident Director of the Weija Leprosarium, Father Andrew Campbell has revealed a touching side of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking in Accra on Friday at the launch of a book on the impactful works of Dr. Bawumia as Vice President, Father Campbell, who has worked with the Vice President on many social projects for the poor and vulnerable, told the audience about his consistent commitment to supporting lepers.

"People come to Weija and they put their hands at their backs. They don't want to greet them (lepers). But Bawumia comes there and he shakes hands with everybody", Father Campbell said.

"He called me on Christmas eve and said he would be with us on Christmas day. When he came, he went round and greeted everybody."

"When he arrived from his car, he took the youngest member of our community into his arms and gave her a warm embrace", Father Campbell added.

He also said; “He (Bawumia) had been supporting us and his doors are always open to me.”A number of people at the launch, discussing the content of the book, corroborated with their own experiences with Dr. Bawumia at both personal and professional levels.

The book titled "Dr. Bawumia and the contemporary Vice Presidency" authored by Communications Professor, Etse Sikanku, delves into the Ghanaian Vice Presidency and how Dr. Bawumia has transformed the office through his focus and advocacy.
