The Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta has seemingly explained why he has refused to resign despite incessant calls for his removal.
The Minister, who is facing a censure motion in Parliament, is answering before an ad-hoc Committee on the issues of incompetence, conflict of interest and abuse of his office raised against him.
Speaking to the Committee probing the censure motion, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta acknowledged the hardships Ghanaians are experiencing under the Akufo-Addo administration.
"Today, I acknowledge our economy is facing difficulties and the people of Ghana are enduring hardships. As a person President Akufo-Addo has put in charge of this economy, I feel the pain personally, professonally and in my soul," he said.
He, however, established that his resolve to continue to work is inspired by the spirit of endurance that Ghanaians exhibit in the midst of the economic adversities.
"I see and feel the terrible impact of the rising prices of goods and services on the lives and livelihoods of ordinary Ghanaians, I feel the stress of running a business but it is the strength and perseverance of the Ghanaian people that inspire me and my colleagues in government every morning...That is what gives me the strength to press on to find solutions and relief for Ghanaians to the myriad of problems that our country and the rest of the world are facing, especially since March 2020."
