WAEC Releases 21000 Blocked Results Of BECE Candidates After Investigations 800 Still Withheld

In a latest development, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has cleared over 21,000 BECE candidates whose results were withheld due to cases of mass cheating.

Out of the 22,270 candidates whose results were withheld, only 812 candidates are still awaiting the release of their results.

The affected candidates can access their placement from Thursday, December 11, 2023.

The Public Relations Officer for the Ghana Education Service, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, confirmed the news and stated that the placements of the cleared candidates have already been worked on.

However, in November, WAEC had cancelled the subject results of 312 school candidates and 3 private candidates due to irregularities during the examination.

The affected candidates were found to have taken foreign materials into the examination hall or colluded with other candidates.

WAEC also cancelled the entire results of 41 school candidates and 1 private candidate for possessing of mobile phones in the examination hall.

Additionally, the subject results of 180 school candidates and 4 private candidates were withheld for suspected offences, while the entire results of 110 school candidates and 2 private candidates were also withheld for various suspected offences.

These recent developments highlight the commitment of WAEC to maintaining the integrity and fairness of the examination process. Cheating not only undermines the efforts of honest candidates but also diminishes the value of the qualification itself.

The actions taken by WAEC serve as a reminder that any form of malpractice will not be tolerated and appropriate measures will be taken to ensure justice is served.

Candidates who have been cleared can now access their placement, while those whose results are still withheld will have to wait for further updates. The Ghana Education Service and WAEC are collaborating to address this issue and ensure a smooth and transparent examination process for all candidates.
