During an interview by AIT TV, Mr. Abubakari Salifu, General Manager, Marketing and Development at Priority Insurance organization Limited, stated that Commercial and Private Vehicle Owners should embrace emerging technologies to prevent unnecessary accidents on the road in Ghana
Below are some reasons and points he raised:
1. enhanced Safety: Emerging technologies, such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), can significantly enhance the safety of vehicles. These systems provide features like collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control, which decrease the likelihood of accidents caused by human error. Embracing these technologies can help prevent collisions and minimize the risk of injuries and fatalities.
2. Enhanced Driver Awareness: Technologies like blind spot detection, rearview cameras, and 360-degree cameras improve driver visibility and awareness of their surroundings. By eliminating blind spots and providing a thorough view, these technologies can help prevent accidents caused by limited visibility, particularly during maneuvers such as lane changes, parking, or reversing.
3. Intelligent Traffic Management: Connected vehicle technologies, combined with infrastructure and communication systems, can optimize transportation networks and improve traffic management. By leveraging real-time data, vehicles can be better informed about traffic conditions, road hazards, and weather alerts, enabling drivers to make decisions that are more informed and avoid potential accident-prone situations.
4. Collision Avoidance Systems: Technological advancements in collision avoidance systems can significantly contribute to preventing accidents. Features like automatic braking, pedestrian detection, and cross-traffic alerts are designed to detect potential collisions and either warn the driver or intervene to prevent accidents. By adopting these systems, vehicle owners can decrease the risk of accidents caused by driver distraction or misjudgment.
5. Driver Assistance and Automation: Self-driving technologies, though still in development, hold great promise for road safety. Fully autonomous vehicles, once deployed, could eliminate accidents caused by human error entirely.
“While we're not quite there yet, semi-autonomous features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and self-parking systems are already available and aid in reducing accidents,”- he added
Mr. Abubakari concluded that, embracing emerging technologies is crucial for commercial and private vehicle owners to avoid unnecessary accidents on the road.
“Investing in advanced safety systems, improving driver awareness, optimizing traffic management, utilizing collision avoidance systems, and ultimately moving towards autonomous technologies all contribute to creating a safer road environment for everyone involved,” Salifu beseeched
