Speaker Of Parliaments Official Residence Not Sold   Lands Commission

The Lands Commission says a report circulating that the Speaker of Parliamentrsquo;sofficialresidence at Cantomentshas been sold to a private developer is “untrue”.

The commission in a statement said, “A no point in time was the said property sold to a private developerby the Lands Commission.”

This comes after a report in the media claims the said property has been handed over to some developers.

RE:SPEAKERrsquo;S RESIDENCE SOLD TO PRIVATE DEVELOPER

The Lands Commission hasbecome aware of reportsin a section of the media suggesting that theRt. Hon.Speaker of Parliamentrsquo;sofficialresidence atCantomentshas been sold to a private developer. The Commission wishes to state emphatically, that at no point in time was the said property sold to a private developerby the Lands Commission.
Records available to the Commission indicatesthat:
1.The land in question was acquired in 1920 by a Certificate of Title, dated 7thJune,1920 for Government services.

2.Since2003,the landhasalways been used as the official residence of the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament.

3.By an application dated 15thNovember 2022, numbered PS/LS/002/12/22, the Parliamentary Service applied foraCertificate of Allocationto regularise their occupation of the land,whichmeasures approximately 1.66 acres.

4.At its sixty-fourth (64th) Regular Meeting held on 22ndDecember 2022, theRegionalLands Commission approved theapplication, after all statutory processes, including planning approval from the LaDadekotoponMunicipal Assembly,had beendulyconcluded.

5.On 14thFebruary 2023, the Lands Commission made an offer of allocation to Parliamentary Service.

6.Parliamentary Service accepted the offer, and after paying the requisite fees, a Certificate of Allocation, dated 28thApril 2023 was issuedto Parliamentary Service.

The Lands Commission is, therefore, unaware of any purported sale of the Rt. Hon. Speakerof Parliamentrsquo;s official residence to a private developer. The Commissionwishes toreiterate its commitment to the prudent and effective management of public lands in the nationalinterest, andpromoteeffective land administration that is anchored on the highest standards of integrity, transparency and candour.
