The National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), will vote on September 2, 2023 in the run-off between Boakye Agyarko and Francis Addai-Nimoh to decide who takes the fifth position.
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Alan Kyerematen and Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto were selected at a special delegates conference as the first four candidates for the race.
Francis Addai-Nimoh and Boakye Agyarko tied with nine votes each for fifth place.
To break the tie, the Elections Committee announced a run-off in accordance with party rules.
However, after a National Council meeting on Wednesday, the General Secretary of NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong, addressed the press and stated that it has been decided that a run-off should be held. However, the fate of the two flagbearer hopefuls will be decided by only the members of the National Council.
The decision according to him was to help save time and cost.
The run-off will be held at the NPP headquarters at Asylum Down.
