EC Chairperson Joins ECOWAS-AU Pre-electoral Fact-finding Mission | Politics

As part of preparations towards the successful conduct of the General Elections in Liberia, the ECOWAS Secretariat and the AU Commission jointly commissioned a team of experts to undertake a pre-assessment mission to Liberia to ascertain the county’s preparedness for the General Elections in October 2023.
The mission was led by Prof Attahiru Jega former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria.
The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Mrs Jean Mensa participated in the mission.
Other members included Ambassador Haja Alari Cole, a Member of the ECOWAS Council of the Wise and Mr Elyse Oueddraogo, Chairman of the Independent National Commission of Burkina Faso.
The Mission also comprised a joint technical team from the ECOWAS and AU Commissions.
Members met with a variety of stakeholders including the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Minister for Justice, the Chief Justice and Justices of the Supreme Court, the Chairperson and some members of the National Election Commission as well as the leadership of Political Parties among others.
The meetings were coordinated by the Resident Representative of the President of the ECOWAS Commission in Liberia, H. E. Jospehine Nkrumah.
The mission’s insights from the engagements held would help shape the electoral support to be provided to Liberia by the ECOWAS and AU.
