Young Musicians Are Singing More About Their Girlfriends Than Social Issues – Gyedu-Blay Ambolley | Music

Ghanaian veteran Highlife musician, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, has expressed his disapproval of the content of music produced by young artists, saying it lacks the creation of awareness on social issues.

He believes music has the power to heal, break down barriers, promote reconciliation, and educate people.

However, in a recent interview on the GTV Breakfast Show, he stated that young artists' songs are not reflective of the social events around them, but rather focus on trivial topics like their girlfriends.

Mr. Ambolley pointed out that music videos of these young artists often feature girls dancing provocatively, which he believes is not a positive representation of social issues.

He went on to say that young artists compose such songs because they do not have many responsibilities, unlike their older counterparts who have a more mature outlook on life.

“If I'm going to talk about it, I think they are singing more about their girlfriends than what is happening socially because if you watch recent music videos, you will see these young girls always shaking their butts”, Mr. Ambolley said.

“I don't blame them because the young ones don't have responsibilities, if you have a responsibility, it will reflect in your lyrics and your music videos but I think they are enjoying themselves, so you can find out from their video and how everything is being portrayed.”

In conclusion, Mr. Ambolley believes that young artists need to be more aware of the social issues surrounding them and use their music to create positive change in society.
