The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to address exceptional issues from the recent Special Voting exercise before the general elections on Saturday, December 7.
The party expressed dissatisfaction over alleged irregularities during the exercise, including reports of electoral officials’ conduct and the use of indelible ink that could reportedly be erased easily.
The NDC emphasized the importance of resolving these concerns to safeguard the credibility of the electoral process.
Addressing the media in Kumasi, Abbas Nurudeen, the Ashanti Regional Communications Officer of the NDC, reiterated the party’s commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent election.
Our eyes and ears are on the ground, monitoring the actions of certain EC officials and their collaborators. We urge all our supporters, sympathizers, and advocates for alter to turn out in large numbers and vote massively for H.E. John Dramani Mahama and all NDC parliamentary candidates,” Nurudeen said.
He also criticized the alleged use of erasable indelible ink during the Special Voting exercise, describing it as a potential enabler of electoral malpractice, including multiple voting and impersonation.
The NDC revealed that assurances had been received from regional EC officials about replacing the flawed ink for the main election.
“We hope the assurances given are genuine. On election day, we will not tolerate the use of indelible ink that can be easily cleaned,” Nurudeen warned.
The party also urged its members to remain vigilant and called on security agencies to act decisively in protecting the integrity of the polls.
The NDC’s demand for swift action reflects its determination to uphold the sanctity of the electoral process as Ghanaians head to the polls.
