First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo has called for peaceful elections as the nation gears up for the upcoming general polls.
Speaking during campaign visits to the Trobu and Okaikwei North constituencies, she reassured Ghanaians of robust security measures in place to ensure a smooth electoral process.
The First Lady urged citizens to cast their votes without fear, emphasising the importance of continuity in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) leadership under its flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia.
“Ghana deserves a lot. We need continuity, so do not be deceived,” she said. “This Saturday’s election is not about violence. Peacefully go and cast your vote.”
“Do not be afraid. Nothing will happen because we have the police and other security services who will ensure there is peace. Go and cast your vote peacefully so Ghana can move to better places.”
Akufo-Addo also highlighted the government’s focus on development projects, positioning Bawumia as the best candidate to steer Ghana towards progress.
In Trobu, NPP parliamentary candidate Gloria Owusu described the upcoming election as a “Thanksgiving vote” for the party, citing its track record of impactful social policies.
“The NPP under [former] president [John Agyekum] Kufuor introduced free maternal healthcare and free school feeding. Under President [Nana] Akufo-Addo, the free SHS was also introduced. I can therefore confidently say that no government has introduced social interventions like the NPP,” Owusu stated.
She urged voters to choose the NPP on 7 December, reminding them that both the presidential and parliamentary candidates appear as number one on the ballot.
Meanwhile, Nana Ama Dokuah Asiamah-Adjei, the NPP parliamentary candidate for Okaikwei North, echoed the First Lady’s sentiments.
She called on supporters to spread the party’s message at the grassroots level, underscoring Mahamudu Bawumia’s manifesto promises.
Rebecca Akufo-Addo’s message reflects the NPP’s emphasis on maintaining peace during elections while encouraging Ghanaians to actively participate in shaping the nation’s future.
As the December polls approach, the party’s leadership is rallying support by spotlighting its achievements and vision for continuity.
The First Lady’s campaign visit marks a significant moment in the electoral season, reminding citizens of their collective role in safeguarding democracy and ensuring Ghana’s progress.
