Speaker Recalls Parliament Sitting Commences On December 16

Parliament is set to reconvene on December 16 as directed by the Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin in pursuant to order 58 of the standing orders of the Parliament of Ghana.
The 8th Parliament of the Fourth republic has been characterized with controversies, especially in the past weeks.
Following 5-2 ruling of the Supreme Court on the vacant seats brouhaha, the majority leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin requested that the speaker recalls Parliament so as to conduct serious Parliamentary businesses which had been left unattended to due to the impasse in Parliament.
In his response to the majority leader, speaker Babgin stated that due to closeness of the upcoming December 7 elections, it is will not be in the best interest of the country to recall Parliament.
However, in a letter dated 2nd December, 2024, speaker Bagbin said, "I, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, speaker of Parliament hereby give notice that, the seventh meeting of the fourth session of the eighth Parliament of the fourth republic shall commence on Monday, the 16th Day of December, 2024."Kobina Darlington/
