Black Stars AFCON 2025 Qualification Failure Not Surprising Fred Pappoe

Former vice president of the Ghana Football Association, Fred Pappoe is not entirely surprised with the Black Stars 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification setback.

Ghana struggled in the recently concluded qualifiers, losing three games and drawing three games across the period.

Playing six games without a win, the West African powerhouse finished bottom on the standings in Group F, derailing the team’s AFCON qualification chances.

For the first time in 20 years, the Black Stars will miss the Africa Cup of Nations after falling short in Group F. The last time Ghana failed to qualify for the CAF’s biggest event was back in 2004.

“Everyone associated with football is not happy about what has gone on that, Ghana will not be part of assembly of African footballing nations at the AFCON 2025. It’s very unfortunate and I think it's something that gives a lot of pain. My assessment is that it is an unfortunate situation and unfortunate development”

“Of course, it was coming considering our performances in the past two AFCON tournament. It was something which was clear for all of us to see that things were not going on well with the team. Our performances have not been anything to be proud off in the qualifiers. We saw signs and the signals were clear on the wall so this is not entirely surprising”

The Black Stars will now shift their attention to the 2026 World Cup qualifications scheduled for March 2025.
