Peruvian Embassy Holds Master Class On Pisco Drink

The Peru Embassy in Ghana has trained some stakeholders and industry players in the hospital and tourism sector on the preparation of one of its national drinks, Pisco.

The one-day Master Class which brought together 30 participants from the hospitality and tourism industry was aimed at inspiring new opportunities to bring Pisco to Ghanaian consumers, and discover Pisco’s potential in Ghana's hospitality and tourism industry.

Addressing participants in the Master Class, Madam Liliana Gomez, the Peruvian Ambassador to Ghana said the Master Class will not only provide insights into the art of making iconic Pisco Sour, and refreshing cocktails but also demonstrate how Pisco can be integrated into distinct offerings by the participants.

Madam Gomez who was hopeful that the experience will spark new collaborations, innovative ideas, and a growing connection between Peru and Ghana, particularly using a mix of natural Ghanaian flavors with pisco said, Pisco as a central part of the evolution, serves as a bridge between the ancient and the contemporary.

"We are excited to see Pisco take its place in Ghana’s top bars and restaurants, and look forward to the many creative ways you will help us share Peru’s spirit with Ghana," she said.

"It is a spirit that lends itself to experimentation, enhancing both traditional and contemporary cocktail recipes, and we are thrilled to introduce it to the Ghanaian market," she added.

The Deputy Head of Mission, Mr Jonathan Quevedo who delivered a presentation of the traditional Pisco drink, as well as its history and dedication of generations who have crafted it over 400 years, took participants through a step by step preparation of the drink said, it carried centuries of tradition, and offers a vibrant, distinct flavor that shined in the Spirits Selection Tournament held in Italy.

The participants who were taken through a practical session tried their hand in preparing different Pisco cocktails.

For his part, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), of Forewin Ghana Limited, Mr Ghassan Yared, who is also the Honorary Consul of Peru to Tema, commended the embassy for the initiative, and offered his services to make Pisco available to the Ghanaian Market.

Some participants who took part in the Master Class expressed appreciation for the chance.

The Master Class which was organized in partnership with Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel also sought to celebrate and explore the spirit of Peru by adding a Peruvian flair to the country’s vibrant culinary and beverage scenes.Ambrose Washman/
