Proud Moments For Education Sector As Govt Commissions More Projects

Government has taken a significant step in transforming the country’s education sector by commissioning 80 educational facilities across all 16 regions.

The landmark event, led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday, November 21, 2024, demonstrates the government’s determination to improve access to quality education and equip students with contemporary learning environments.

Speaking at the main commissioning ceremony in Accra, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the transformative power of education in national development. “Education remains at the heart of our agenda for building a prosperous Ghana,” he stated. “These 80 projects symbolize our commitment to creating opportunities for every child, regardless of location. This investment is about securing our children's future and equipping them with the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly competitive world.”

The commissioned facilities include Model STEM Senior High Schools, E-blocks, kindergartens, and vocational training centers designed to meet the diverse needs of students nationwide. Key projects include the Kpasenkpe Model STEM SHS in the West Mamprusi District, the Accra STEM Academy in La-Nkwantanang-Madina, and the Sagnarigu Tamale Business School, which now features an 18-unit classroom block.

At a separate event in Accra, Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum described the commissioning as a pivotal moment for Ghana’s education sector. “This is a proud moment for Ghana’s education sector,” he said. “These projects demonstrate our unwavering commitment to improving access, ensuring quality, and delivering innovative facilities that inspire learning.”

Dr. Adutwum highlighted several impactful projects, such as the Anyinam TVET-Applied Technical and Fashion School, designed to provide students with practical job-ready skills, and the Bosomtwe Model STEM JHS, which includes a four-story, 11-unit classroom block.

“By prioritizing STEM and technical education, we are preparing our students to compete globally and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s industrialization agenda,” Dr. Adutwum noted.

The Minister also praised the government’s focus on rural communities, where facilities like the 12-unit classroom block at Salem D/A Basic in Atwima Mponua and two-unit kindergarten blocks at Fremasi DA Primary in Assin South will provide much-needed support to students and teachers. “These projects are life-changing for our communities,” he remarked.

The commissioning ceremonies, broadcast live on television and social media platforms, were met with widespread enthusiasm across the country. Communities in regions such as the Volta Region celebrated projects like the six-unit classroom block with contemporary sanitation facilities at Kodzobi Ando Basic School in Adaklu.
