Education Ministry Probes Ablakwas Expired Rice Allegations In SHSs

The Ministry of Education has announced a full investigation following allegations by MP for North Tongu in the Volta Region Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa regarding the distribution of expired food items to some senior high schools.

The NDC lawmaker alleged that the National Food Buffer Stock organization collaborated with a organization called Lamens Investments Africa Limited to distribute some 22,000 bags of expired rice.

He further alleged that the Buffer Stock’s storage facility in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region was used to repackage expired rice imported from India.

Reacting to the development the spokesperson for the Education Ministry Kwasi Kwarteng expressed appreciation to Hon. Ablakwa for bringing the issue to light and acknowledging the importance of such feedback in ensuring high standards within the nation’s educational institutions.

As part of the investigation, the Ministry said it is working closely with the National Food Buffer Stock organization (NAFCO) and the Ghana Commodity Exchange (GCX), the entities responsible for food supplies to senior high schools across the country.

“We assure students, parents, guardians, and the public of our commitment to protecting the health and safety of every student under our care,” Mr. Kwarteng stated.
 
He pledged that the Ministry would pursue the investigation diligently and provide regular updates to the public.
