GHA Workers Declare Indefinite Strike Effective November 12
Tue, 12 Nov 2024 06:00
The Ghana Highway Authority Workers union has declared an indefinite strike action starting from November 12.
This means that Road infrastructure projects and other vital administrative roadworks currently under construction are set to face significant delays.
Speaking with the Media, the Chairman of the Ghana Highway Authority workers union, Mr. Noble Yasroku stated that the strike is a direct response to the government’s refusal to halt the implementation of the controversial National Roads Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1118).
He stated that the latest development follows a formal petition to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in which workers called for broader consultations before proceeding with the implementation of the new Act.
Mr. Yasroku therefore advised all Highway workers not to come to the Ghana Highway Authority premises from tomorrow November 12.
Mr. Noble Yasroku therefore stated that the Union demand for the removal of two key officials: Ing. I.K. Mensah, the Chairman of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) Board, and Ing. Collins B. Donkor, the Chief Executive Officer of the NRA.
He said that the workers argue that these officials have been complicit in decisions that threaten the integrity of the road sector.
