Renowned broadcast journalist Nana Aba Anamoah has commended the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, for his recent announcement of free dialysis treatment for kidney patients under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Her praise for the initiative was shared on Twitter on Monday, 11 November, where she applauded the decision as a significant relief for many Ghanaians facing the high cost of kidney treatment.
Dr Bawumia, the flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), announced on Sunday, 10 November, pledging that the new policy will come into effect on 1 December 2024.
The move has been received positively by the public, especially among patients and advocates who have been calling for more accessible healthcare solutions.
In her Twitter post, Nana Aba highlighted the importance of the initiative, expressing that the policy would decrease the burden on individuals suffering from kidney disease and their families.
She noted that dialysis costs have been a heavy financial strain on many Ghanaians, and Dr Bawumia’s initiative is a welcome alter for a crucial health service.
