Abena Dokua Educational Foundation Raises 30000 To Support Ghanaian Students

The Abena Dokua Educational Foundation (ADEF) at its 2nd Annual Fundraising Dinner, held on October 19, 2024, in Springfield, Virginia, has raised over $30,000 to support Ghanaian students and enhance educational facilities across Ghana.

The fundraising event, attended by over 100 supporters, was a night filled with purpose, unity, and the spirit of giving. The evening offered attendees a memorable experience, complete with fine dining, live entertainment, and inspiring stories from those directly impacted by ADEF’s work. Through the generosity of attendees and the support of community partners, the foundation reached a fundraising milestone that will fuel its upcoming projects and initiatives, focused on improving access to quality education in underserved communities.

The highlight of the night was an impactful speech delivered by keynote speaker Ato Commey, JD, a prominent advocate for educational support and equal chance. Mr. Commey shared his personal journey, detailing the ways in which education has empowered him to overcome obstacles and reach his goals. “Education was my bridge to chance,” he reflected. “Having experienced its power firsthand, I am a passionate advocate for child education and the work that organizations like ADEF are doing. Supporting young students and educational facilities is not only transformative for individuals but also essential for the growth of communities and the advancement of our society.” His words resonated deeply with the audience, reinforcing the significance of ADEF’s mission and the need for continued support.

President of ADEF, Kwaku Boateng expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support from attendees, acknowledging both longstanding supporters and those new to the foundation’s mission. “We are overwhelmed by the generosity and dedication of our supporters,” Boateng said. “This event not only brings us closer to our fundraising goals but also strengthens our commitment to making a lasting impact in communities across Ghana.” He also highlighted several of ADEF’s recent accomplishments, which serve as testament to the foundation’s dedication to fostering educational growth.

Among these achievements, Mr. Boateng recounted the foundation’s completion of a classroom block in Kona in the Central Region, which has significantly expanded the school’s capacity to serve more students. He further noted the refurbishment of an old classroom block in Ave-Afiadenyigba (Volta Region), providing a safe and conducive learning environment for children who previously studied in dilapidated conditions. In the Eastern Region, a new 12-seat toilet facility was constructed in Kyebi, improving sanitation and health standards for students and staff. Additionally, schools in Asikuma Breman (Central Region) received projectors, classroom furniture, and uniforms. Thousands of exercise books and other essential learning materials have also been distributed to students in various schools, easing the financial burden on families and enhancing students’ learning experiences.

The evening wasn’t only about reflecting on past achievements but also about looking ahead. With the funds raised from this year’s dinner, ADEF plans to undertake further projects that will persist to address educational obstacles in Ghana. According to Mr. Boateng, the ADEF team are committed to expanding the foundation’s reach, focusing on underserved areas where resources are scarce and the need for educational support is greatest. In the coming year, ADEF aims to launch additional projects, such as building new classrooms, providing innovation resources, and supplying essential learning materials, all with the goal of improving the quality of education and creating a more inclusive environment for Ghanaian students.

Mr. Boateng concluded his remarks with a heartfelt appeal to donors and partners to remain engaged with the foundation’s mission, emphasizing that every contribution has the power to make a difference. “With your continued support, we can build on the foundation we’ve laid and create sustainable alter,” he said. “Our work is far from done, but together, we can transform educational opportunities for countless children in Ghana.”
