The Vice President and flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has underscored the importance of digital skills to the young people of Ghana.
Reiterating his commitment to making Ghana a digital hub in Africa with many young Ghanaians at the center stage, Dr. Bawumia said innovation is a global trend in the 4th Industrial Revolution and attaining digital skill is a major enabler for the youth in terms of job opportunities.
"Where the world is going, we have to give our young people digital skills so they can take benefit of trends in the world. We cannot leave them behind...Today, if a child is trained in digital skills, that child can sit anywhere in Ghana and be working for a organization anywhere in the world and make some good money. It is already happening and we need to expand it for more young Ghanaians to benefit", Dr. Bawumia said in Ahwia at Kwabre East Constituency of the Ashanti Region.
Dr. Bawumia explained having digital skills does not limit one's job potentials to only Ghana, explaining that it is a skill that offers global opportunities without the need to travel outside Ghana.
"You can be here in Boakra and be working for a organization in America , Canada, the UK and be receiving your money...That is why I want to give about 1 million Ghanaian youth training in digital skills and every district in Ghana will benefit. I want to train about 5000 youth in every district on digital skills to create more job opportunities for them."
"The good thing about the digital skills training is is that it does not require high education. Even people who have, unfortunately dropped out of school for some reasons, can also be trained in digital skills and they will turn out to be so great...This is where the world is going and we cannot leave our young people out."Ameyaw Adu Gyamfi
