Staff Of Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital Demand Speed Humps After Fatal Accidents

The staff of Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital at Mampong in the Eastern Region have issued a request to the Ghana Highway Authority to construct speed humps in front of the hospital by November 15, 2024.

The appeal follows a series of road accidents that have claimed over six lives between May and October this year in front of the hospital due to the absence of speed humps.

The latest tragedy involved a registered nurse who was hit by a speeding vehicle after completing her shift.

Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, the hospital’s administrator, Maxwell Larbi expressed frustration over the lack of action from the authorities despite repeated requests since 2020.

‘Since 2020 we started writing to the highway authority concerning the frequent knockdown of clients and staff. And it is like nobody seems to notice what we are telling them. We have a simple request, they should construct a speed ramp in front of the hospital to decrease the vehicular speed, that is all’, he stressed.

He disclosed that after the recent incident, the authorities reassured the hospital that they would contact the highway authority and the road safety authority to address the issue.

‘They have given us promises that they're going to contact the highway authority and the road safety authority to see what they can do to help immediately. For now, we’re satisfied with the assurance they have given us but if we wait till November 15 and we don’t see any actions then we will advise ourselves’, he stated.graphiconline
