There Will Be No Showdown In Parliament We Will Simply Walk Out If Majority Leader Assures

Majority Leader, Hon Alexander Afenyo-Markin has refuted the prospect of any chaos or purported showdown when Parliament reconvenes on, Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
According to the Effutu lawmaker, the NPP caucus in parliament is not ready to be involved in creating a scene in the chamber should the Speaker stand by his initial ruling on Thursday, October 17, 2024.
He indicated that if tensions should escalate, the majority caucus is ever prepared to stage a walk out rather than engage in any confrontation with the NDC caucus.
Alexander Afenyo markin’s statement comes on a recent Press conference held by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) stating emphatically that when Parliament resumes, the NDC caucus will be occupying the majority wing without fail, following the ruling given by speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, who declared four seats of Parliament vacant.
Following the ruling of the speaker of parliament, the NDC has highlighted a number of actions the “now majority” caucus will take which include the appointing of a new second deputy speaker and the abolishing of the E-levy.
However, speaking in an exclusive interview with Peace FM’s Kwami Sefa Kayi on the Kokrokoo Morning Show on Monday October 21, the Majority Leader stated that the NPP caucus in Parliament is not oblivious of the schemes being undertaken by their colleagues on the other side of the political divide.
However, they remain resolute that no further impasse, as has characterised the 8th parliament in times past, will reoccur.
According to Afenyo-Markin, a bailiff from the Supreme Court is expected to serve Parliament with the Court’s orders on Monday which they look forward to happening.
“As far as we are concerned, the Supreme Court has issued a directive, and Parliament will be served. If the need arises, we will simply walk out,” Afenyo-Markin stated.
“On Tuesday, October 22, the NPP caucus will appear on the floor of Parliament. We stated that, we await the verdict of the Supreme Court so once the Supreme Court has spoken, we shall be present in Parliament. When we get to the chamber and the NDC decide to occupy the space for the majority, we won’t fight them. We shall walk out quietly. If they put Ato Forson on my seat at the right hand of the speaker, I am not going to fight. I will leave quietly,” he empahsised.
