The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has urged voters in the Hohoe constituency not to vote again for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the pending elections because the party and its Member for Parliament, John Peter Amewu, have failed to fulfill their campaign promises.
According to a report by 3, he made these remarks during a four-day tour of the Volta Region.
Asiedu Nketiah told voters in the area that the promises the NPP and its Member of Parliament made during the 2020 elections were made to sway voters.
“After they used him (Amewu) to win the election, they have dumped him. Not only have they failed on their promises of developing Hohoe, they’ve also decided to do away with your MP, Peter Amewu, because they are finished with him.
“When they were in opposition, they accused the NDC of delaying work on the Eastern Corridor Road, the Hohoe UHAS campus project, a project the NDC actually brought here after starting the first public university in the Volta Region. But after 8-years, the Eastern Corridor Road is still not completed and as for the Hohoe UHAS campus project, they have cut sod twice, but that project is still not done," he added.
He appealed to voters not to be swayed by another round of promises by the NPP.
“It is because Amewu knows Mahama is coming, that is why he is asking you to vote skirt and blouse and if you know Mahama is coming, allow Mahama’s boy to go and work with him and bring development to Hohoe," he stated.
John Peter Amewu won the parliamentary election in the Hohoe constituency on the ticket of the NPP in 2020, defeating NDC parliamentary candidate, Margaret Kwaku
