Over 30 Trained On Gender Peace and Security Issues

Thirty (30) females and a male trained in Certificate Course in Gender, Peace and, Security at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, KAIPTC, to deepen the understanding of women grassroot actors in the implementation of the core pillars of Women Peace and Security.

The course therefore will provide the chance to enhance the technical and theoretical information of grassroots women leaders from targeted organizations in the Volta, Eastern, and Greater Accra regions of Ghana, who work in the space of women peace and security. The training addition demonstrates KAIPTC’s commitment and contribution toward local capacity development for the implementation of the Ghana National Action Plan (GHANAP 2, 2020-2025) on the UNSCR 1325.

Deputy Commandant – Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) Air Commodore David Anetey said the course is developed in line with the Centre’s strategic objective of building the capacity of Africans to fully implement the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa (the Maputo Protocol), the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSRC 1325) and its follow-up resolutions on Women Peace and Security in the African context.

According to him, The KAIPTC through its Women Youth Peace and Security Institute (WYPSI) and the Faculty of Academic Affairs and Research with support from the Government of Sweden developed this course to specifically target grassroots women, peace builders and women addressing the day-to-day obstacles of women in conflict and security.

He said, the course provides a distinct forum to engage women from diverse backgrounds, sectors and further provides an chance to build relationships and develop viable women, peace and security networks at the grassroot level. This will help the women to not only implement policies and programs on women, peace and security, but also harness their voices and agency to inform policies that affect women in their localities most importantly during this electioneering period in Ghana.

Paramount Queen of Alavanyo Traditional Area , Mamaga Ametor Hoebuadzu II's call for thorough training highlights the urgent need for women to be equipped with the skills and information to navigate and resolve conflicts effectively. This initiative not only empowers women but also contributes to broader peace and security efforts in the region. Overall, it’s a significant step toward fostering resilience and leadership among women in the context of peace building.
