UK-based Ghanaian gospel musician, Sonnie Badu, has expressed his profound gratitude to the founder of Fountain Gate Chapel, Rev Eastwood Anaba for being a vessel to deliver him from depression some years when he lived in the United States with his family.
In a recent interview, the renowned musician who relocated to the UK following the condition said he spent many hours by himself in his office and got swallowed up by the problems during the time.
Sharing his personal struggle with depression, Sonnie Badu revealed a pivotal moment when he even contemplated harming himself.
However, the thought of his six young children's well-being gave him the resilience to persevere through the darkest times.
Crediting Rev. Eastwood Anaba, for playing a vital role in his recovery, he disclosed that God revealed his struggles to the revered man of God who then provided guidance and support.
“I battled depression for almost six months. Sometimes, I would stay in my office alone for 12 hours with the lights off, not wanting to talk to anyone. It was really bad, but during that time, I wrote a song. The thought of harming myself crossed my mind once or twice.
“But thinking about my six children made it challenging. They are young, and if something happened to me, that would be my biggest concern. That thought gave me hope.
“The painful part was having to pay my bills, and you know how the US system is. All the bills come after buying a house. I had to pray, lay hands, and seek counseling. Rev. Eastwood was the one God used to redeem me,” he stated.
Last week, Sonnie Badu made revelations about the neglect he faced from his colleagues within the gospel fraternity after a devastating injury in 2023 prior to his concert at the Grand Arena of Accra International Conference (AICC) last year.
The award-winning singer is gearing up for this year’s edition of Rhythms of Africa slated for the Grand Arena of Accra International Conference Centre(AICC) on Friday, November 29.graphiconline
