ECGs IPS Directorate Set To Curb Power Theft Improve Security Standards

As part of efforts to curb incidents of power theft and improve security ECG installations, the Electricity organization of Ghana (ECG) has unveiled the Directorate of Investigation, Prosecution & Security (IPS).

The initiative by the power distribution organization represents a significant milestone aimed at bolstering operational security and maintaining the highest accountability standards in the power distribution sector.

In a maiden newsletter published by the ECG and dubbed; ‘The Power Dispatch’, it explained that the IPS will play a primary role of ensuring robust investigation and prosecution of power theft, which is crucial for preserving ECG's resources and ensuring fair distribution.

The IPS will also utilise rigorous methods to identify, investigate, and prosecute these cases within ECG's operational areas to yield significant financial savings for the organization and government.

Additionally, the Directorate will implement extensive security measures to protect ECG's physical assets, personnel, and confidential information. These robust protocols are expected to mitigate risks and deter threats, ensuring seamless operations and bolstering ECG's reputation as a trustworthy industry leader.

“IPS will also rigorously investigate overhead expenses, fraud, and financial misappropriation to strengthen the organisation against internal illicit activities and promote a culture of transparency and trust,” the newsletter read.

crucial to the IPS’s success will be collaboration with security authorities such as the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Armed Forces, Financial Intelligence Centre, Economic and Organized Crime Office, National Investigations Bureau, and private investigators.

These alliances will enable the professional and effective fulfilment of IPS's investigative and prosecutorial duties.

The establishment of the IPS was led by ECG’s Managing Director, Samuel Dubik Mahama Esq. who believes the move underscore the institution’s commitment to self-accountability while leveraging on its proactive approach to sustaining business and future operations.
