TUTAG Calls for Nationwide Demonstration to Combat Galamsey

The Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG) has called on the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and all members of organised labour to stage a massive demonstration across the country to trumpet home their call for the need to protect our rivers, water bodies and environment for today and generations unborn.

According to the Association, they are gravely concerned about the ongoing devastation caused by small-scale and illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey and its severe impact on the environment, particularly on our water bodies.

The National President of the Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (TUTAG), Prof. Uriah S. Tetteh in an interview with Peace FM News said these activities persist to deplete our natural resources, with terrible consequences for the health and well-being of our citizens.

Prof. Uriah S. Tetteh highlighted the dire consequences of ongoing galamsey activities, stressing that the contamination and destruction of water bodies are not just environmental concerns but also public health emergencies.

He said a unified voice from various sectors of society can drive meaningful alter and ensure that sustainable practices are adopted to protect Ghana’s natural resources and aims to put pressure on policymakers and government authorities to enforce stricter regulations and take decisive action against illegal mining operations.
