Journey to Nkroful Celebrating 115th Posthumous Birthday of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah Launched

In line with the celebration of the 115th posthumous birthday of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, together with the Chiefs and people of Nkroful, have launched, “Journey to Nkroful”.

Journey to Nkroful is a remarkable experience for all Ghanaians powered by the Honourable Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, together with his colleague Members of Parliament in the Western North region, Chiefs and people from the Nzema land to celebrate the vision and tenacity of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

In a colourful display of pomp and pageantry at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, the “Journey to Nkroful” was duly launched. In attendance were Members of Parliaments, Chiefs and Nzema indigenes domiciled in Accra.

As the Chief Conveyer of the event, the Ellembelle lawmaker said, “Journey to Nkroful is a profound reminder of the enduring legacy of our founding father of contemporary Ghana.”

According to him, the journey to Nkroful was started by men of valour, with the late Robert Tachie Menson, who at the time, was the Accra regional organiser of the Young pioneers, who mounted the first walk-a-thon by walking from Accra to Nkroful in one week together with other four hundred (400) young men.

Tachie Menson, together with other four hundred young men decided to make history by visiting the place of birth of one of Africa’s most cherished leader, popularly described as the doyen of Africa’s leadership, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

Mr. Armah Kofi Buah said, “The root of the Independence of Ghana, the birthing of good governance, good citizenship as well as the birthing of the collective union of African states; all these systematic features  originated from Nkroful through the birth of the son of the soil, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.”

Emphasising on the values, principles and aspirations of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, NDC’s Parliamentary representative for Ellembelle who doubles as the Deputy minority Speaker revealed that Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah played an exceptional and peerless role in the struggle for Independence with a clear vision of seeing a Ghana free from colonial rule thereby seeing to it that the dignity and self-respect of every Ghanaian is upheld and protected.

Through his tireless efforts, Ghana became the first of sub-Sahara African country to gain Independence from British colonial rule. This monumental achievement was just not a victory for Ghana but a clarion call for freedom across the African continent.

“This initiative is not about resemblance but to rekindle the flame of Nkrumah’s vision and to ensure that his ideals persist to illuminate his path forward.”

The “Journey to Nkroful” is a two week long programme which seeks to have all Ghanaians throng the birth place of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah from the 14th of September, 2024 through to the 21st of September, 2024, which also marks the 115th birthday of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

“Let us be honest, Ghana has lost its way. A journey to Nkroful will ignite a certain passion for a physical, emotional and psychological renewal of the individual. With the spirit of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, we will find our way as a country again, with the values that matter, citizenship, humility, selflessness, looking out for your neighbor and a committed hard work.”Kobina Darlington/
