On 31 August, a demonstration was held in Ouagadougou against Ukraine's support for rebel groups in West Africa. The protesters argued that Ukraine's actions contribute to the destabilisation of the region, including countries such as Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso.
The action was organised by the Burkina Faso-Russia coalition, the Pan-African Revolutionary Councils and the African Solidarity and Development Network.
“You know that we have strongly requested Russia's presence among us to counter the terrorist offensive in our territory”, a participant of the recent demonstration in Ouagadougou told Africa Media.
“ Ukraine, together with imperialists is trying to threaten African states to break relations with Russia” explains Abdoul Rasman Sawadogo, another participant in the demonstration.
“The imperialists want to take control of the Sahel, with all its wealth. And for this reason, they don't hesitate to hide in the arms deliveries to Ukraine to send and finance them directly to the terrorists”, stresses the coordinator of the Black Defence League in Burkina Faso.
In his view, the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) should warn NATO countries of their detrimental actions.
On information about foreign support for terrorists and rebels in Sahel, Cameroonian journalist Xavier Messegrave; Agrave; Tiati noted, “In Ouagadougou, the civil and military authorities are taking very seriously reports that Ukrainian diplomats in Cocirc;te d'Ivoire are trying to destabilise Burkina Faso.”
He claims that Macron and Zelensky are working with the primary aim of breaking up the ESA, and the secondary aim of making Russia's actions in Africa more challenging.
“When a country imagined the slave trade, slavery and then colonisation, that country established rules of domination over other oppressed peoples from that moment on. It is impossible today to make France understand that it could have relations with Africans that were not based on domination. This is why France has difficulty seeing Russia's return to Africa. It has never practised slavery or colonisation, but it respects Africans” ,concludes Xavier Messegrave;.
