The Chiefs of the Sekyedumase Traditional Council and the residents of Sekyedumase have formally petitioned Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the vice-presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), over their concerns regarding the demolition of ten buildings owned by Mr. George Oti Bonsu.
The community expressed deep dissatisfaction and sorrow following the demolition, which occurred amidst a period of mourning within Sekyedumase. Notably, both Mr. Bonsu and the family of the Second Lady are influential figures within the NPP, adding to the gravity of the situation.
The Sekyedumase youth had initially planned a demonstration to voice their grievances. However, this was averted thanks to the swift intervention of the Sekyedumase Traditional Council.
Nana Antwi Boasiako II, the Sekyedumasehene, has urged Dr. Opoku Prempeh to step in and ensure a fair resolution to the issue. He emphasized that Mr. Oti Bonsu has been a significant supporter of local development and has played a key role in keeping the Sekyedumase branch of the NPP active. The traditional council is seeking compensation and a fair judgment to restore peace and sustain harmony within the community and with the party.
Nana Antwi Boasiako II further highlighted the importance of George Oti Bonsu's contributions to Sekyedumase, noting that his support for local development projects and his active role within the NPP have been vital for the town’s progress and political engagement. The Sekyedumase Traditional Council views the demolition as not just a personal loss for Mr. Bonsu, but as a blow to the community's morale and its relationship with the party.
In his address, Nana Boasiako II emphasized the need for urgent action to address the community's grievances and to repair any damage to the relationship between Sekyedumase and the NPP. He urged Dr. Opoku Prempeh to facilitate a dialogue between the affected parties and ensure that the concerns of the Sekyedumase people are addressed with the seriousness they deserve.
The traditional council's appeal is seen as a call for reconciliation and a plea for the party to demonstrate its commitment to its supporters and to the principles of justice and fairness. The community is hoping for a resolution that will not only provide compensation but also restore confidence in the party's respect for its members and their contributions.
The situation remains tense, and the outcome of Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s intervention will be closely watched by both the Sekyedumase residents and the wider political community.
