Dec 7 Elections We Wont Sign Peace Pact Until Our Concerns Are Addressed Asiedu Nketiah Reiterates

“Those leaders urging us to sign the peace pact must understand that every life matters. We cannot allow people to die in pursuit of power. The lives lost during the election must not be in vain. If such actions cannot be held accountable as crimes, we will not sign the peace pact,” said the National Chairman of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

The comment of the National Chairman of the NDC is a reiteration of his position that his party is not ready to append his signature to any peace pact if the concerns of the NDC are not addressed by the various stakeholders of the peace agenda.

Addressing party enthusiasts and faithful at the Lower Manya-Krobo constituency during a campaign tour by the flagbearer of the NDC, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah stated that, the NDC will only decide to sign the peace pact if the perpetrators of the heinous post electoral crimes are brought to book and the affected families fully compensated for their loss.

During the December 2020 elections, there were records of some persons who lost their lives in Techiman as a result of election violence.

The NDC has expressed its utmost disappointment for the loud silence being demonstrated by President Akufo-Addo as well as the National Peace Council.

He said, “Those leaders urging us to sign the peace pact must understand that every life matters. We cannot allow people to die in pursuit of power. The lives lost during the election must not be in vain. If such actions cannot be held accountable as crimes, we will not sign the peace pact.”

“We will not let wrongdoers walk free, using the peace pact as a scapegoat. We need to set an example to deter others. We will never sign a pact that allows impunity. We owe it to the victims and their families to seek justice,” he added.Kobina Darlington/
