Bawumias Low Import Duty Policy Will Stop Smuggling From Togo Nana Akomea

Nana Akomea has touted Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's policy on import duties as one of the best to curb smuggling of goods into Ghana.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, at GSTS in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18, launched his manifesto which he intends to implement if he becomes President in 2025.

Among the many policies, he highlighted, is his introduction of a system to decrease import duties for Ghanaians which Dr. Bawumia believes will increase Ghana's economic productivity.

Touching on the policy during Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show, Nana Akomea addressed the naysayers recounting why this policy is significant to Ghana's growth.

He explained that the low import duties in Togo encourage smuggling, therefore Dr. Bawumia's import duty policy will stop the menace.

"When you check the statistics, there’s a lot of smuggling coming into Ghana from Lomeacute;hellip;Lomeacute; is on the border and there is frequent smuggling because many people take their cars, machines, drinks and a whole lot of commodities to pass there because their port duties are minimal," he said.Ameyaw Adu Gyamfi/
