Pharmacy House Officers Threaten To Sue Govt Over Unpaid Allowances

Pharmacy House Officers in Ghana who have completed their one-year mandatory service to the nation are threatening to sue the government over unpaid allowances.

Representing the cohort of graduates who completed their Doctor of Pharmacy program in October 2022, Dr. Prince Osei expressed their frustration, stating that despite countless efforts to engage with leadership, their concerns remain unresolved.

This threat comes after the Vice President assured the press last Sunday that the issue of unpaid allowances would be addressed.

During a press briefing, Dr. Prince Osei emphasized that the 320 pharmacy house officers remain hopeful that the relevant stakeholders will resolve the issue before their 23-day ultimatum expires.

Dr. Prince Osei highlighted the financial difficulties faced by the officers, citing daily commuting expenses during their year of service.

He acknowledged that many officers could only complete their service with the support of their families.

He also urged the Finance Minister to expedite the clearance process to ease their financial burden, especially as some officers are struggling with loans.
