Reducing Number of Ministers To 50 Is A Good Thing Dr Otchere Ankrah Hails Bawumia

Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah has lauded Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over his pledge to work with Ministers not more than 50 under his government.

The Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, launching his 2024 manifesto at GSTS on Sunday, August 18, promised the nation that, as part of his measures to transform the country, will ensure a minimal size of his government.

" . . we have experienced a major economic crisis and, with your support, weathered the storm. But we are not yet where we want to be. It is, therefore, very significant to protect and expand our rebounding economy to attain and sustain macroeconomic stability with low inflation, low interest rates, exchange rate stability, and low budget deficits,” he stated, stressing "enhancing the role of the private sector, along with fiscal and administrative decentralization, improving our systems, and the way our institutions function will lead to greater efficiency, cut waste, and ensure value for money in procurement".

He emphasized; "The move towards private sector provision of many public services would create fiscal space of at least 3% of GDP annually (GHcent;30 billion). This represents a major paradigm shift. Additionally, an effective system of governance will require even fewer ministers. Therefore, I would have no more than 50 Ministers.” 

Contributing to Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' show on Thursday, August 22, the Governance lecturer at the Central University, Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, opined that having 50 Ministers is the way to go to cut down on the nation's expenditure.
