It is with profound sadness that the Melcom Group of Companies announces the passing of our esteemed Communications Director, Godwin Avenorgbo, affectionately known as the "Grandmaster," who departed this life on Monday, August 19, 2024.
The late Godwin Avenorgbo joined the Melcom Group in 2013 and quickly became an exemplary leader whose visionary approach to communication left an indelible mark on the organization. Throughout his tenure, the Grandmaster demonstrated unparalleled dedication to directing both internal and external communication affairs. His industrious nature and non-negotiable leadership style set a high standard within the organization, earning him admiration and respect from all levels of the organization.
One of his most significant achievements was serving as Chairman of the Melcom Education Scholarship. Under his guidance, the scheme was transformed, earning countless recommendations and greatly benefiting its recipients.
Beyond his contributions to Melcom, Godwin Avenorgbo was an astute journalist and broadcaster with a distinguished career before joining our organization. He was a pivotal member of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and was recently appointed as Chairman of the Planning Committee for the GJA's 75th Anniversary Celebrations.
His influence in the media landscape was profound; he pioneered morning shows on GBC's platforms, a format that has since been adopted by countless media houses across the country.
Godwin Avenorgbo's legacy extends beyond his professional achievements. He was a mentor, a visionary, and a leader who believed in the power of ethical communication. His contributions to both Melcom and the broader community will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
