Feeding The Future Myhelp Yourhelp Foundations Commitment To Street Children

"The youth hold the most significant potential to contribute to a nation's overall development," says Nicholas Cofie, founder and CEO of the MyHelp-YourHelp Foundation.
Growing up as an orphan, Nicholas was inspired to establish the foundation to uplift the socio-economic status of orphans, widows, street children, prisoners, and all less privileged individuals in Ghana.
According to the Ghana Demographics Profile for July 2020, children under age 15 make up 37.44% of the population. Despite laws prohibiting child labour for those under 15, many children still face the harsh realities of street life by no fault of theirs.
Understanding Streetism
Streetism refers to children who live and work on the streets due to various factors such as divorce, parental death, neglect, truancy, rural-urban migration, and abuse. In Accra, many of these children can be found in areas like Central Accra, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Madina, Abeka-Lapaz, and Kaneshie.
A census conducted between 2007 and 2011 revealed that over 61,000 children live on the streets of Accra, with a significant number coming from Ghana's Savannah and Northern regions. These children are highly vulnerable to exploitation and often face food insecurity.
The Foundation's Impact
Since its inception in 2018, the MyHelp-YourHelp Foundation has undertaken 21 projects. The foundation's mission aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger) and echoes the biblical mandate in Matthew 25:35 to feed the hungry and provide for the needy, which states: 'For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.’
Recent Achievements
On July 27, 2024, the foundation celebrated its sixth anniversary with a "Feed a Child, Save a Life" campaign. Approximately 30 dedicated members distributed nearly 1,000 food packs containing jollof rice, fried rice, plain rice with chicken, soft drinks, and water. The distribution started at the National Theatre and extended to Madina Zongo-Junction, culminating back at the Accra Retail Centre.
Sponsors and Media Partners
The success of this event was made possible by sponsors Randa Cakes & More, Esi’s Kitchen, and Cake Haven Gh, and media partners , GTV, Joy News, and Atinka TV.
Call to Action
The MyHelp-YourHelp Foundation urges philanthropists, corporate organizations, and individuals to join their cause. With collective effort, more projects can be realized, making a significant impact on the lives of Ghana's vulnerable populations.
Together, let's create a brighter future for all!
