NPP Manifesto Launch 4 Major Promises To Expect From Dr Bawumia

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to launch its manifesto on Sunday, August 18, ahead of the December polls.

Ahead of the crucial event, the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has outlined some of his visions for Ghanaians regarding the policies he wants to implement when given the mandate.

From abolishing certain major taxes to introducing a credit scoring system, Dr. Bawumia has assured Ghanaians that he will fulfil his promises.

Ahead of the manifesto launch, GhanaWeb takes a crucial look at some major promises to expect from the NPP:

1. Abolish E-Levy:

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on February 7, during his inaugural national address as NPP flagbearer, promised to abolish taxes on electronic financial transactions.

He also pledged to remove the tax on betting, among others.

“To accomplish this, there will be no taxes on digital payments under my administration. The E-Levy will therefore be abolished,” Dr Bawumia announced.

2. Introduce Credit Scoring System:

According to Dr. Bawumia, the credit scoring system will enable citizens to purchase goods on credit.

"Among many benefits, the operation of a credit scoring system will make it easier for the ordinary Ghanaian to purchase essentials such as cars, and mobile phones, and acquire loans at lower interest rates," Dr. Bawumia stated.

3. Digitalization:

Bawumia has pledged to invest in digital infrastructure to enhance economic growth.

He assured that more youth will be trained in digital skills to empower them to take up opportunities in the evolving digital landscape, as well as create jobs for themselves.

"I will make Ghana a digital hub of Africa. With digitalisation, a lot of jobs will be created for the teeming unemployed youth," he stated.

4. Free Tertiary Education Scholarship for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs):

Persons with Disabilities will be handed free tertiary scholarships with special funds being set aside to foster the implementation of the initiative.

This policy, expected to commence in 2025, will cover both tuition and accommodation for the beneficiary students.

"I am very clear on the way forward. I believe that for Persons with Disabilities, we are going to support them a bit more. We are giving scholarships to every person, but I am going to dedicate some of the monies to our Scholarship Secretariat and the GETFund to provide free tertiary education; both tuition and accommodation, to every person with a disability who makes it into the university so they can all benefit," he stated.

There are several other promises made by the party’s flagbearer which he is expected to highlight on August 18.
