Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Running Mate of Mr John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged electorates in the Central Region against being swayed by the sweet promises of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
"They will come with sweet promises, but show them that you desire development and better livelihood," she said.
Interacting with hundreds of market women at the Anomabo market in the Central Region, who mobbed her during a stopover at the market, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang asked the traders to question the NPP about its failed promises.
She said the NDC will persist to be truthful to Ghanaians, adding that the party will not promise what it cannot deliver.
Touching on market infrastructure, which Anomabo currently lacks, she reminded the traders that the NDC government built all the major contemporary markets across the country, citing the Kejetia and Kotokuraba markets as examples.
The Anomabo market project, she explained, was initiated by the last NDC government before leaving office, and yet the current government has been unable to complete it, leaving traders with no option other than to sell along the highway.
Prof Opoku-Agyemang, who has been campaigning in the Central Region this week, assured the people of Anomabo that the next NDC government will complete the market project and improve the welfare of traders and small scale business operators through various
interventions such as the establishement of a Women’s Development Bank.
"We know how to do it because we have done it before, and shall do it again," she assured the traders and residents.
From Anomabo, the Running Mate interacted with a large crowd of traders, drivers and commuters at Apam junction, who mobbed her amidst excitement.
The traders and drivers, chanting slogans for alter, expressed concerns about the lack of social amenities in the area, citing the poor condition of their roads as a major problem forthe NDC to prioritise the development of the area when it returns to power, and assured the NDC of their votes.
