2024 Mid Year Budget Review In LimboAs Minority Stage Boycott
Tue, 23 Jul 2024 10:00
There is clear evidence that the Minority in Parliament do not want anything to do with the 2024 mid-year Budget Review Presentation; at least for now.
Nearly four hours after the time advertised for the commencement of the event, Finance Minister, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, is yet to commence his presentation as at 2:30pm.
This is because, only Members of Parliament from the Majority side are in the House.
Interestingly, though the Minority members are not in the Chamber, scores of them have been seen loitering within its precints, lending credence to unconfirmed reports of a boycott.
The Mid-year Budget Review is expected to provide updates on revenue, expenditure, and other financials.
In the context of economic indicators, it is an significant exercise in assessing the government's fiscal policy and economic performance halfway through the year, and also offers an chance for the government to revise its economic tactics in response to prevailing conditions.
reliably informed that the Minister of Finance will speak to about five (5) priority areas that the government intends focusing on before the end of the year.
