Bright SHS Receives High Commendation For Academic Excellence During Graduation

Bright Senior High School, a private educational institution in the Eastern Region, has received high commendation from key education stakeholders for its exceptional academic performance.

Abuakwa North Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Alhaji Umar Bodinga and Dr. Martin Offei Otu, a Senior Lecturer at Koforidua Technical University, who both have children enrolled at the school, testified to the quality of education provided, citing their children's excellent performance in the West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and subsequent university success.

At Bright Senior High School's maiden graduation ceremony for about 700 final-year students, MCE Alhaji Umar Bodinga shared, "My son was here. He had 7As in 2022 and 1B. He is a product of Bright Senior High. Now he is at the University of Ghana pursuing IT. He is performing well. So it is time the government also begins to start supporting private schools like Bright SHS."

Dr. Martin Otu Offei lauded the school for its quality education, saying, "My son is an example of what has happened in this school. He completed here with very good grades. When he went to university, he performed very well. My son has been in the first-class position since the first year. So I have enrolled my daughter here again. The standard here is excellent. Even among the teachers, there are people with Ph.D.s and very experienced teachers that have gone on retirement here."

Bright Senior High School was recognized as the Best Private School in Ghana in 2021 and was named the Best Private School in Abuakwa North by the Municipal Assembly and the Municipal Education Directorate in 2023.

Abuakwa North Municipal Director of Education, Grace Adza-Wude, who was the Guest Speaker at the graduation ceremony, stated that Bright SHS has significantly raised the educational standards in the municipality, contributing to its performance rankings.

She praised the school's academic performance and the continuous investment by management to sustain and improve it yearly.

She pledged to sustain collaboration with the school through capacity-building programs and other academic activities to enhance quality education.

Some parents emphasized the superior quality, discipline, and conducive learning environment of Bright SHS as their reasons for choosing the school for their children despite the Free SHS policy.

One parent remarked, "Education is something that everybody has his own choice. I personally prefer private schools. Because if you look at Free Education, the government is doing its best but not up to the standard. Here, the standard is high, and the performance of the children is marvelous."

Another parent, George Kwame Ofori, commented, "The moral fiber in our institutions now is also breaking down, and as such, if teachers are putting these students into order, here we brought them here, and we tell them to do what is expected of them to bring up the kids to the rightful standard for us. So the moral fiber is upheld in Bright SHS."

Vice President of Bright SHS, Mr. Dominic Acquah, explained that the graduation ceremony has been instituted as an annual event due to demand by some foreign universities from their alumni as evidence of graduating from high school.

He expressed optimism that this year's batch of WASSCE candidates will sustain the school's 100% pass rate and improve the number of candidates who acquire 8As.

Bright SHS has qualified for the National level of the National Science and Maths Quiz Competition (NSMQ) this year, marking the school's first time in the competition.
