Fix the Economic Mess and Stop Making Empty Promises Mahama Tells NPP

John Dramani Mahama, the flag bearer for the opposition party, the National Democratic Congress has hit hard at the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) over what he describes as propagation of empty promises.

According to the former President, the NPP should rather focus on revitalising the economy rather than going about touting promises they cannot accomplish.

Mr. Mahama accused the NPP of prioritising campaigning for votes and making empty promises over revitalising the economy they have thrown into shambles under the leadership of Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia.

The opposition party’s flag bearer, Mr. Mahama, while addressing constituents at the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency during his tour in parts of the Greater Accra region stated that, the running mate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s assertion that Akufo-Addo’s achievements surpasses those of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, is a clear demonstration of the NPP government’s lack of awareness of the country’s hardships.

He argued that the government’s primary focus should be on addressing the current economic obstacles that is hitting the face of every Ghanaian.

He said, “Unfortunately, the people who have caused this economic crisis do not even realise there is a crisis. Because you hear them say they are the best government and even Nkrumah doesn’t compare, it shows they don’t even understand the situation in which Ghana is."

“Because if they understood the situation, we are still five months to an election, there are urgent measures they can take to ameliorate the situation. You don’t go saying vote for me and when I come I will do this or that; you can do it now.

“You say you will rationalise taxes, five months to an election, is enough time to rationalise taxes. All the promises you are making, you have enough time to start implementing them now but you say, no, vote for me first then I will come and do it. What they did in 2016, they can’t do again,” he added.
