Transport Fares Reduced By 15.3% Effective Monday, December 19 | General News

Road Transport Operators have agreed to reduce transport fares by 15.3% effective 19th December, 2022.

According to a statement jointly signed by the General Secretary of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU of TUC-Ghana), Mr. Godfred Abulbire and General Secretary of the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), Mr. Emmanuel Ohene Yeboah, the recent reductions in the petroleum products has necessitated the action.

"With the recent reductions in the price of petroleum products, it became necessary to engage stakeholders to give consideration to a review of the fares in line with the Administrative Instrument. Consequently, series of negotiation meetings were held with stakeholders to agree on an acceptable level of fare reduction commensurate with the current fuel prices."

"Following these negotiations and in consideration of the plight of Drivers, Commuters and the General Public, we have resolved to reduce the existing transport fares by 15.3 percent," the statement said.

The new fares cover the following types of Road Transport Operations: Shared Taxis, Intra-City (Tro-tro), InterCity ( Long Distance) and Haulage.

Commercial Transport Operators have been requested to comply with the new fares and post same at their loading terminals.
