The Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service in partnership with the Council of Bureaux of Ecowas Brown card insurance scheme is in Ghana to educate drivers on the need to have motor insurance for future benefits.
Speaking to the Media, the General Secretary for the Ecowas Brown card insurance scheme, Mr Richard Eshun stated that the Ecowas Brown Card scheme is anchored on the key ECOWAS objective of economic integration and the free movement of persons, goods and services across the sub-region.
He stated that the main objective is to ensure prompt and fair compensation to victims of motor accidents caused by non-resident motorists travelling to and from other ECOWAS member States resulting in deaths, injuries and property damage.
He again said The Brown Card Insurance Scheme serves as a common insurance cover against Third Party Liabilities that the visiting motorists may incur while travelling in other member states.
Mr Richard Eshun made this known during the celebration of the 42nd Anniversary of the Council of Bureaux of Ecowas Brown card insurance scheme which began with education of drivers on the Achimota Overhead (N1 Highway)
Mr Richard Eshun therefore urged drivers and car owners to ask for the Ecowas Brown card after insuring their cars at the insurance organization.
The Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Chief Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Obeng, also advised drivers on the need to have motor insurance.
