Were in Collaboration with Law Enforcement Agencies to Apprehend Illegal Travelling Agencies Senior Labour Officer

Senior Labour Officer at the Labour Department under the auspices of Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Mr Amadu Hussein has highlighted the department's collaboration with the Ghana Police Service and Immigration Service to apprehend illegal traveling agencies who deceive migrants by promising them job opportunities abroad.

According to him, travellers must verify the certifications of agencies under the department that the destination country they are going to work has a bilateral agreement with Ghana and advised travellers willing to do a background check on agencies to prevent frustration upon arrival.

He added that it is an offence for an agency to transport travellers without going through the right procedure.

He spoke at this year’s project on Illegal Migration organised by final year Development Communication students at the University of Professional Studies Accra(UPSA) as part of their annual symposium and is in collaboration with the Ghana Immigration Service.

Deputy Superintendent at the Ghana Immigration Service, Richard Owusu Brinfour urged the youth to pursue migration through legitimate channels, advising them to seek information from authorized offices to facilitate smooth travel experiences and avoid disappointment upon reaching their destinations.

Communication Lecturer at the University of Professional Studies Accra(UPSA) and Project lead for Migrating Right Africa, Mrs Sandra Yeboah Nyarko reiterated the importance of lawful migration and also appealed to the government to prioritize job creation for the youth, emphasizing the relationship between employment opportunities and mitigating illegal migration
